Choosing guitar strings can be a really puzzling decision, especially for a beginner guitar player. Even for experienced guitar players, switching between strings can be difficult to do because they are pretty expensive and choosing the wrong kind can be a waste of money. These tips will guide you save money and buy strings you'll be happy with.
The gauge of guitar strings is the thickness of the strings. They are measured in milimeters and stated somewhere on the package. Some brands have different names for the gauges of their strings like Ernie Ball. Slinky, Super Slinky, Beefy Slinky. They are all just names for the gauge of the strings. Keep in mind, though. The gauge doesn't just affect how hard or easy the guitar is to play. They also affect your tone. Heavier gauge strings are harder on your fingers, harder to bend, etc; but they have a much fuller tone. If you're playing heavy rock or want a thick tone, get heavier gauge strings. Conversely, lighter strings are easier to bend, and are easier to fret, but they have a brighter tone that some players think is too bright. Also, they are easier to break since they are more fragile. I endorse starting with medium gauge strings and depending on the music you're wanting to play, try a heavier or lighter gauge string gradually.
Plastic Coating or No Plastic Coating?
Some brands of guitar strings offer a plastic coating on the string that protects against rust and gives the string a greater longevity. The downside to these kinds of strings is the price and the fact that they have a different feel than the normal, metal strings. Elixir is the best-known brand for this. Their coating is called "Nanoweb" or "Polyweb." I prefer to use Elixir strings, but I don't recommend starting on them. I recommend starting on cheaper, nickel-wound strings to get used to them. Once you've had some experience with "natural" guitar strings, give coated strings a shot. They will definitely last longer than non-coated strings, but you've got to see if you like the feel and more importantly, the tone of them. I personally don't mind the plastic coating and I've found plastic coated strings hold their tone much longer. When I wasn't in a band and playing several times a week, I went nine months without changing the Elixirs on my electric because they sounded fresh and new for that long.
Buy in Bulk
It's hard to do, I know. One way to lessen the cost of them, however, is to buy in bulk. Whenever you buy in bulk, you save a few dollars per pack. Those dollars add up and the most important thing to look at is that you'll use those strings! There is no way you'll let those babies go to waste because they are so pricey. If you're daily and using non-coated guitars, you should be changing your strings every month at least. That's stretching it too. If you're recording or gigging, you should really replace them every week if not more often. Check online for bulk deals too. One tip, though: make sure you like the gauge of the string before you buy 10 packs of it.
I have worked in early childhood education since I was a teenager. I have been a childcare worker, nanny, preschool teacher, center director and resource coordinator. There are several typically child friendly foods that are actually dangerous for children under five. I saw these foods frequently appear in lunchboxes and even served by childcare centers, which was a surprise because this material is covered in licensing classes. Small children should not be served:
They are the perfect size to get enter the throat. Cut hot dogs into quarters lengthwise first and then slice horizontally.
Popcorn
No matter how watchful you are, a few kernels usually slip through.
Raw carrots
Children often don't chew carrots enough and they could easily cause choking. Cooked carrots are fine.
Whole grapes
If your child loves grapes, cut them into quarters to ensure they are small enough to pass through without choking if swallowed.
Candy that is either soft or chewy
Either type of candy can get lodged in the throat and not dissolve quickly enough to avoid choking.
If your child's daycare center is providing these foods, alert them to the risk. Ask that your child not be given these foods. Even if you think your child can eat the food properly, it's better to be safe than sorry.
TIPS FOR REDUCING DEPRESSION
Did you know that the saying, "You are what you think" is hard by truth than many people might care to believe? What you tell yourself impacts your feelings, your mood, your behavior and sometimes even your health. "But," you say, "sometimes life does stink." Yes, but the reality is, how you interpret those "rotten" things in life is what determines your mood, emotions and subsequent behavior. Two people can have the same initial emotional reaction to a loss: sad, lonely, even angry. One person allows herself to experience those emotions but also tells herself, "Life will go on; I will be alright in the long run; a better day is ahead." The other person attach's negative, self-putative or self-debasing beliefs to the loss, such as, "I cannot go on. The loss was my fault, and it is because I am worthless and unworthy. Life will never be good again." This kind of negative thinking can be rooted in one's family biology or be learned through observation of parents, family or even peers. A person who is depressed experiences these negative thoughts as something they cannot control.
Click For More Depressing Quotes Depression is a mood state that causes people varying degrees of distress. Depression, when it become more entrenched and severe is diagnosed as a Clinical Depression (Major Depressive Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder or Dysthymia). Clinical Depression causes tremendous physical and emotional pain. It is a relatively common mental health issue. Some professional in the field now say that everyone will eventually be affected by depression, either their own or that of someone they are close to.
So, how exactly do those nasty negative thoughts connect with depression? Negative thoughts, as related to depression, are reflected in a negative view of the world, future and self. These constitute what Beck, the founder of Cognitive Therapy, called the "cognitive triad." The goal is to identify the specific negative thoughts that lead to negative emotion. Once identified the objective then is to identify what about those thoughts is irrational. Only then can a person learn to refuse the twisted thoughts and replace them with more realistic alternative thoughts.
All in all, the idea of negative thoughts impacting emotions and behavior may not sound too complicated but the process of unmasking them, sorting out the rational from the irrational and learning to replace them with healthier thoughts is generally a bit too much to take on by oneself. The negative thought pattern is often fairly automatic and self-perpetuating. Professional help is often called for. Therapists specially trained to help with this approach to depression treatment are called Cognitive Therapists (CT) or Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists. A CT or CBT therapist and the client work along as a team to identify problematic thinking and ways to overcome their depression through changing their thinking and subsequent emotional responses and Behaviors.
Negative thinking alone may not be the full cause of someone's depression. Depression can be generated by factors such as biological changes and catastrophic events. However, once depression has set in, regardless of whatever the initial cause, one common factor is negative thinking. Depressed people see the world, themselves and the future in a predominantly negative manner. They view themselves negatively and see their future as bleak. Cognitive therapy is a treatment that helps people identify and correct negative ways of thinking, telling themselves more realistic, honest and even hopeful truths about themselves and life. With practice, these new ways of thinking can become healthy habits and the impact of depression is greatly reduced.
Reasons Why Guys Hate Girls
To keep the relationship going well, the guy as well as the girl must be aware of each others likes and dislikes. While it is correct that it is often the guys who chase the girls since they find them cute and adorable, it is also true that many girls put off the guys by having unreasonable demands and expectations. So if you are a girl who doesn't know what the guys hate about the girls, here is a small guide on what the guys hate in girls. 5 Traits That Guys Hate In Girls
1) Nagging and Jealousy - A guy often doesn't mind when he is confronted with lots of questions on his whereabouts and doings. But what gets to the nerves of most guys is when the same question are repeated over and over again and when they start sounding more like an accusation rather than a question. Most guys get defensive when they face lots of accusations while the girls think that they are getting defensive because they must have done something wrong. You must learn to trust your guy and have faith in him if you want the relationship to go forward.
2) Acting to get attention - Many girls have a habit of acting needy to get attention. They may start complaining about food, restaurant, even their dress, hair color, etc. on a date. What the girl may not realize is that the trick works for some time but the guy starts losing interest in her after some time. So do not act needy to get attention, your guy is there for you.
3) Expecting guys to be mind readers - Many girls have a habit of saying something while they mean something different altogether. Do not expect your guy to be a mind reader, guys are often not good at mind reading and guessing. If there is something bothering you, do not hesitate to tell it to your guy. Guys do appreciate frankness, so tell it to your guy as it is.
4) Making guys wait - Everyone hates waiting, including the guy who loves you. If you have a habit of being late for a date, you must get your act together immediately. Being a girl doesn't give you the liberty to come late for dates. Most guys don't mind waiting for a few extra minutes but if you are always late without a good reason then, you will lose respect of your guy.
5) Expecting guys to be always available - This is another habit that gets to the nerves of most guys. Most girls expect their guys to be always available for them even if they are not together. So the girls start calling and texting over and over again expecting the guy to respond to their queries at any given time. Give your guy some space, he may be busy with his work.
TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR
1. Brushing your hair 100 strokes every night will help it grow.
Brushing hair actually causes damage and split ends because it pulls hairs out of their follicles. To keep your hair healthy, try to avoid over styling.
2. Cutting your hair will make it grow faster.
This may seem true for facial hair, but the hair that grows on your head has different properties than that on your face. Cutting your hair will not do anything, but make it that much shorter.
3. Hair-loss comes from your mother's side of the family.
Inherited baldness can come from either side of your family tree and can even skip several generations.
4. If you always use the same shampoo, eventually it will stop working.
Your hair will work the same no matter how long you use it. If you find a shampoo or conditioner that works well for your hair, rest assured that you can stick with that product for as long as you like.
5. If you pluck out a gray hair, two or three will grow back in its place.
This myth is absolutely not true, but regardless it is still a bad idea to pluck hairs. Plucking them out can leave behind scars, damaged roots, or cause infections.
6. You can repair split ends.
Once hair is split, it's split. There is no repairing split ends.
7. Wearing hats will make you go bald.
This is false. Hats aren't tight enough to cut off circulation to follicles, so there would be no damage done.
8. Rinse Out Conditioners Do Not Work Because You Rinse Them Out
Rinse out conditioners work very effectively for conditioning your hair when they are applied immediately following hair washing. They work because even though you rinse them out they leave behind a deposit of proteins and other moisturizing ingredients that remain on your hair and help keep your hair better conditioned, smoother, softer, and shinier.
9. Salon Products Are No Better Than Drugstore Products
This myth is easy to bust simply by comparing product labels. Salon products are generally a lot higher quality than their drugstore alternatives. This is because they are usually manufactured with higher quality ingredients and they contain expensive ingredients that you generally wouldn't find in drugstore products. So, if you want to use the best, highest quality ingredients on your hair, definitely chose salon products over drugstore brands.
10. You Should Wash Your Hair Everyday
This hair advice is not true for everyone. Some people may need to wash their hair every day while others may only need to wash their hair once or twice a week. There is no one hair washing routine that will work uniformly for everyone. It's best to wash your hair on whatever schedule works best for you based on your hair type and texture.
